Fibroids are a benign smooth muscle tumour of the uterus, the management of which is dependent on several factors including symptoms, size, past obstetric history and future plans for children. Whilst most women with fibroids have an uncomplicated pregnancy, the potential for issues is frequently a clinical concern since these tumours are common in reproductive aged women. We will review the impact of fibroids on fertility, the foetus during conception, through pregnancy and labour.

Hugo is an AGES accredited Advanced Laparoscopic Surgeon and Gynaecologist with specialist training in Infertility and IVF. He specializes in the treatment of infertility associated with surgical conditions such as endometriosis, adenomyosis, heavy bleeding and uterine fibroids. Hugo completed his specialist training in 2011 and then undertook a two year Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery Fellowship at The Royal Women’s Hospital, Melbourne. He was one of the first AGES accredited Laparoscopic Fellows and in 2013 was awarded the prestigious David Healy Memorial AGES Travelling Fellowship. Hugo is involved in several research projects on the area of Adenomyosis and infertility.
